Do you offer in-person appointments?
Unfortunately, we don't offer in-person appointments at the moment. After you drop your pet off with your veterinarian, the cardiologist will examine them later in the day. You'll receive a detailed report from Capital City Veterinary Cardiology, and your veterinarian will go over the results with you. We're committed to providing the best care for your pet, and we appreciate your understanding.
What will happen during my pet's consultation?
During your pet's consulation, the cardiologist will perform a cardiac physical exam. An echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). This often requires shaving fur over the left and right sides of the chest in order to obtain diagnostic images. In addition, your pet's cardiac rhythm with be monitored with an electrocardiogram (ECG). For these procedures, your pet will need to be able to lay down on their sides with gentle restraint. While most patients do not require sedation, some pets may find this stressful and benefit from mild sedation in order to facilitate a diagnostic examination. If sedation is required, your veterinarian will discuss this with you. (Please note: in some cases the examination will not be able to be performed without sedation. If you elect not to sedate, an exam may not be performed.)

Following the examination, Capital City Veterinary Cardiology will provide a report with recommendations to your veterinarian. This report will include recommendations for any medications that may be needed, as well as recommendations for any additional diagnostics which may be warranted, such as blood work, chest x-rays, blood pressure, abdominal ultrasound, etc.
How much does a consultation cost?
Consultation costs can vary depending on what is required. Please reach out to your primary care veterinarian's office for an up-to-date estimate of costs based on your pet's needs and medical history.
Do you manage cases directly?
At Capital City Veterinary Cardiology, we specialize in consulting services to ensure your pet receives the best care possible. While we don't manage care directly, we work closely with your primary care veterinarian to provide the best possible outcome for your pet. If you have any medical questions, we recommend discussing them with your primary care veterinarian.
What if I think my pet is having an emergency?
If you're worried about your pet, please take them to the nearest emergency center right away! Don't forget to inform your primary care veterinarian that you're seeking urgent care. Please note that Capital City Veterinary Cardiology is a mobile consulting service and doesn't offer emergency medical care. Emergency consultations with your veterinarian or emergency clinic in the greater Sacramento area may be available depending on availability.
What areas do you serve?
We primarily serve Sacramento and the surrounding area. In some cases, we may also be able to offer our services to the Bay Area, Tahoe area, Reno, NV and even Hawaii with coordination from your veterinarian's office. Please note that due to travel costs and time, we may require a minimum number of cases from your veterinarian before we are able to schedule travel.
How can I schedule a consultation for my pet?
Please contact your primary care veterinarian to schedule a consultation.
